Sheffield Wildcats schools mini league report

More exciting news to come from us! One of our dreams as a club is to have as many kids in our area skating and enjoying Rink Hockey. The model we’ve created over the last 4 years is proving to be a big hit but we think we can grow further. We’re very blessed to have so many novices who attend our early training sessions that we have been planning on how best to accommodate everyone.

So how do we do that? Our idea is that as we visit schools in the Sheffield region and put on taster sessions, we have the makings of a new school team. As we’re based in Shiregreen we’re well aware that the chances are more kids from around Sheffield may not be able to attend our sessions because of travel or involvement in other pass times. We came to the conclusion that we could expand in greater numbers if we just cast our net further. What did we find? We have lots of children interested in Rink Hockey.

Now we have schools interested all over the city region and the Wildcat’s name is hot topic in school PE departments. With the help of club members, our chairman Keith, has been able to create a competition which we aim to run as often as possible in which novice skaters can play other children of their same age and abilities. Our first competition was this week with teams built up from our regular novice session and a guest team from Loxley Primary School, the Loxley Arrows.

Everyone had so much fun, the noise was rapturous and there were plenty of smiley red faces at the close of play. The Wildcats would like to extend a warm thank you to all the kids, parents, helpers, coaches, time keepers, referees, the Loxley Arrows and of course Keith for working hard to get this new event off the ground.

From the feedback we’ve had already we think the next one can’t come soon enough!
